Alba BIPOC Scholarship

We’re honoured to offer a fully funded scholarship place on the Alba Yoga Academy 200-hour online Yoga Teacher Training, beginning March 2026.

Many students face barriers that prevent them from accessing yoga. These barriers aren’t always visible, but they have a real impact.

Representation isn’t just about who is in the room, it’s about who is leading the class, who is included in teacher trainings, and who is featured in yoga media.

If a student walks into a yoga space and sees no one who looks like them, they might wonder:
Is this practice really for me?
Will I be welcomed and understood?
Will I be the only one who needs modifications?

Yoga will only become truly diverse when more people can see themselves reflected in their teachers.

So as yoga teachers, we must ask ourselves:
Are we actively making space for diverse students and teachers?
Are we challenging the idea that only certain body types or abilities can practice yoga?
Are we amplifying voices that have historically been underrepresented in the yoga world?

So, as a starting point here at Alba Yoga Academy we are delighted to offer a BIPOC student scholarship in 2025/26.

This scholarship is for a student who identifies as Black, Indigenous or a Person of Colour and who may not otherwise have access to this kind of training. Our hope is to support greater equity in the yoga world by making this pathway more accessible and representative.

At Alba, we care deeply about community, inclusion and meaningful change. We’re committed to creating a learning environment where everyone feels valued and able to show up fully as themselves.

As part of this commitment, we’re proud to be working with Jonelle Lewis – senior yoga teacher, inclusivity advocate and leader in the field of anti-racism in yoga. Together, we’ve developed a curriculum that includes honest exploration of yoga’s roots, colonisation, cultural appropriation and social justice themes woven through our philosophy content.

We know that representation matters. We also know that systemic barriers exist in yoga spaces – and this scholarship is one small part of our commitment to changing that.

If this opportunity resonates with you, we warmly invite you to apply.
